The Hillside High School International Baccalaureate Programme is an
IBO authorized World School, a member of the
IB Schools of North Carolina (IBSNC), a Durham Public Schools (DPS) Magnet Lottery comprehensive/traditional high school, and the 2020 & 2023 Magnet Schools of America National Award of Merit
School of Distinction recipient.

MYP-in-a-Nutshell
- Serves as post-secondary prep (i.e. college, career/workforce, military) designed for students in grades 9 (Year 4) and 10 (Year 5)
- Integrates global awareness and perspective as a connection to students’ everyday knowledge/experience
- Assesses mastery of content through criterion-level grading that reflects students’ self-paced progression of learning
- Uses student-centered, collaborative, and innovative teaching & learning methods within their 8 subject groups
- Affords challenging academic and extra-curricular opportunities to enhance holistic skills (i.e. communication, self-management, social, research, thinking)
- Engages students in classroom enrichment and extension via

- Grades 9-10 of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) – Rigorous program of academic challenge and critical thinking that draws connections among subject areas and to the real world
- Diploma Programme (DP) – grades 11-12 – Rigorous yet balanced college preparatory coursework culminating in a series of examinations which may earn students college credits
- Teachers receive certified IB training
- Students become proficient in a second language through the IB course of study
